What is ‘cosy crime’ and why is it so increasingly popular? Considering a range of series, from SJ Bennett’s Her Majesty Investigates, through Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club mysteries, Robert Thorogood’s Marlow Murder Club and Steph Broadribb’s Retired Detectives Club, we examine the appeal of the cosy crime sub-genre and ask why Agatha Christie’s novels and the popular TV series Midsomer Murders do not comfortably fit the conventions of cosy crime.
