Maypole dancing on Chalfont St Giles village green

This programme of poetry and vocal music, devised by Karen Welch and Catherine Langdale, takes as its theme the centuries-old inspiration provided by Spring.

To showcase this, they have drawn on the talents and versatility of local readers and singers.

The first half of the programme ranges from 14th century Chaucer to 20th century Manley-Hopkins but, recognising the special significance of the spring of 1916, the second half features war poems and music including a selection from the much-loved Butterworth settings of Housman’s The Shropshire Lad.

Finally the audience will have the opportunity to join in memorable songs such as It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, Pack Up Your Troubles and Keep the Home Fires Burning.
